In 1869 she was re-rigged as a barque. She was sold to Hine Brothers of Maryport in 1877. By 1890 the Horatio had disappeared from the shipping register

2289 The William Ritson was a wooden barque built by Ritson & Co. at Maryport in January 1864. She was initially owned by Fawcett Johnston & Co., of Maryport, who at the time also owned the Robert Ritson and the Mary Ann Johnston.

The William Ritson operated in the trade to India and China. It seems she was under the command of Capt.J.Brough for her early career, until in about 1883 the barque was sold to Hayton & Simpson.

In about 1890 the William Ritson was bought by owners in Argentina and was renamed Juan M.Bijardav. She was soon sold to Norwegian owners and was registered at Farsund under the new name of Hiram. She went to the breakers' yard in 1905.

===============

The Robert Ritson was a barque built at Maryport in 1851. Her first owner and commander was Capt.Fawcett Johnston, who had previously been master of the Mary Ann Johnston and was later to own the William Ritson

2290 There is a marriage recorded between an Annie Brough and William McPherson in Bridgeton, Glasgow in 1874. This is not the same Ann Brough as the daughter of Joseph Brough and Christina Jackson. The Glasgow Annie's parents were a JOhn Brough and an Ann (can't read) Brough, Ann (I277)

2291 There is some discrepancy with David's age at time of marriage but I have linked to this record because of the additional information about the marriage taking place at Copewood. This is the home earlier of Margaret Hope Donaldson and her daughter Jemima who married John Halliday. Margaret Hope lived at Copewood until her death in 1901 so there is a family connection. Possibility that John's (1853) mother is Margaret born 1828 at Ruthwell. If this is the case then David D and Jane Brough D are both grandchildren of David D and Margaret Hope. Donaldson, Jane B (I312)

2294 Thomas Copeland & Margaret Cherry's marriage confirmed from Thomas's death certificate and from the DCs of some of the children. Confirmation that Thomas's wife is the same Margaret Cherry who was born on 1793 in Clough yet to be obtained.

2303 TRABBOCH, PARISH OF STAIR.

Owned and leased by Wm. Baird & Co., Ltd. Description. Number of apartments.

Trabboch is a village of 94 dwellings on the Stair and Littlemill road, about two miles distant from Stair. It is made up of four rows, three of 18 houses each and one of 40. The bulk of the houses are of two apartments. It was in the parish of Ochiltree, but is now in the parish of Stair, the alteration being made for parochial purposes.

The 1st or Long Row. In blocks of 8.
The first, or Long Row, contains 40 houses, built in five blocks of eight each. The end house of each block is of three apartments, the others of two.

Dimensions.
The measurement of the two apartment house is 14 feet by 12 feet for the kitchen, and for the room 12 feet by 6 feet. The three apartment house is not much larger in floor space. [65]

2nd Row.
The second row has 18 houses on the same principle as the Long Row.

3rd and 4th Rows.
The third and fourth rows are exactly the same as the second row. All the rents are 2s a week.

Cottages.
Besides the houses mentioned, there is a cottage built crosswise at the beginning of each of rows 2, 3, and 4, the rent of which is 2s 6d a week. These have four apartments. The three rooms are very small, the largest being 9 feet- by 8 feet. The kitchen is of a fair size.

Water supply.
The water supply is from Loch Bradan.

Accommodation, Closets, etc.
There is a washing-house for every four houses, and a coalhouse and a small dry-closet for every house. There is a tiny ashpit attached to every closet.

Closets and Ashpits dirty.
There were no doors on any of the closets when we saw them (6th December, 1913), and both closets and ashpits were deplorably dirty. Some of the ashpits were half-full of foul water and rotten matter.

Paths unpaved.
The paths are unpaved, parts of them badly cut up, and in wet weather exceedingly dirty.

Remarks.
With a little attention Trabboch could be much better. Pavements before the doors would be a great help both as to appearance and comfort.
